The National Palace Museum's 2024 exhibition, Behold the Gungju! Princesses in Qing Archives, explores narratives surrounding female roles and, through educational outreach, forums, and other related activities, gradually enhances awareness and understanding of gender diversity. To further advance this topic, the National Palace Museum will host the "2024 International Webinar on LGBTQIA+ Equality and Visibility in Museums," focusing on the practices and challenges museums face concerning LGBTQIA+ issues. The forum will feature experts and researchers from the museum field, who will share their experiences and strategies for representing gender and cultural diversity in exhibitions.
The webinar will feature Professor Richard Sandell from the School of Museum Studies at the University of Leicester and Nicole Moolhuijsen, coordinator of ICOM Italy Working Group on Gender and LGBTQ+ Rights. They will share international case studies from the UK and Italy, discussing how museums integrate gender diversity issues and awareness, as well as the challenges of implementing these practices within the museum framework.
Additionally, the webinar will feature senior curator Craig Middleton from the National Museum of Australia, who will present insights from the book Queering the Museum, co-authored with Nikki Sullivan. He will explore how museums can break away from traditional heteronormative narratives and promote the representation and practice of gender diversity through queering strategies.
*The event will be conducted with consecutive interpretation in both Mandarin and English.
*The webinar will be held via Webex, and a meeting link will be sent to registered participants via email. Please be sure to check your inbox.
