《Roomba 書法：詩意的機器考古學》是一個不斷演變的裝置藝術，探索自動化與動作、書寫與抹除之間的張力。此作靈感來自賽・托姆布雷（Cy Twombly）姿態性的書法筆觸，將清潔的動作轉化為書寫，並將書寫化作機械與人類介入交織的編舞。
裝置中，Roomba 掃地機械人在覆蓋著細石墨粉的地板上穿梭行走。當它們「清潔」時，留下錯綜複雜的痕跡——旋渦與線條構成一種逐漸浮現的視覺語言。這套自我維持的書寫與抹除系統成為一個轉瞬即逝的筆跡場域，也是一種聲響衰變的現場，延伸我對聲音、在場感與記譜邊界的持續探究。
每台 Roomba 配備一個 3D 列印的喇叭，播放緩緩滑動的正弦波音。隨著它們移動，觀者會體驗到根據位置與聆聽焦點產生的微分音拍變化——聲音的空間性作為真實主觀性的隱喻。
存在為一個孤獨的人類，上野健透過擴音器發聲，將詩意的語言與原始的聲音動作融合在一起。他演唱泛音、運用循環換氣，並產生不同的音色。他的聲音如同一種技藝精湛的對位，與 Roomba 的自動化形成鮮明對照，在機械精準中彰顯人性的表達。這種交織構成了一種關於書寫的機器考古學——於存在與消逝的邊界之上描繪、抹除、並重拾表達。
Roomba Calligraphy: A Poetic Machine Archaeology is an evolving installation that explores the tensions between automation and gesture, inscription and erasure. Inspired by Cy Twombly’s gestural calligraphy, the work transforms cleaning into writing, and writing into a choreography of mechanical and human intervention.
In the installation, Roombas navigate a floor layered with fine graphite dust. As they “clean,” they leave behind intricate traces—whorls and lines that form an emergent visual language. This self-sustaining system of inscription and erasure becomes a site of ephemeral mark-making and sonic decay, extending the artist’s broader inquiry into voice, presence, and the limits of notation.
Each Roomba carries a 3D-printed speaker emitting slowly gliding sine tones. As they move, the audience experiences shifting microtonal beatings shaped by spatial position and perception—where sound becomes a metaphor for the subjectivity of truth.
A lone human presence, Ueno, vocalizes through a megaphone—melding poetic language with raw vocal gestures. He sings multiphonics, uses circular breathing, and produces difference tones, his voice serving as a virtuosic counterpoint to the Roombas’ automation. Together, they enact a machine archaeology of writing—tracing and erasing, reclaiming expression at the threshold of presence and disappearance.
