▍Introduction
Under the theme “Design Beyond Boundaries,” this year’s forum explores how design transcends established disciplinary and professional boundaries to respond to transformations in contemporary cities, industries, and society. The discussion unfolds across three dimensions: cities and local communities, materials and manufacturing, and exhibitions and international connections.
Bringing together design experts from Japan, Poland, Slovakia, and Taiwan, the forum invites dialogue across diverse perspectives—from urban innovation and local initiatives to materials and production technologies, international design exhibitions, and urban development. Through cross-disciplinary collaboration and design practice, it seeks to rediscover the value embedded in places, materials, technologies, and cultures. It further examines the changes driven by emerging technologies and manufacturing methods, and how design can connect resources across industry, culture, and cities to open up new possibilities for collaboration and future development.
【Keynote Session 1: From Sustainable Urban Regeneration】
|Speaker|Yuki Uchida — Futurama, Founder & Principal /
Re:public Inc., Director
|Speaker|Li-Chin Kuo — CEO of Co-create Planning & Design Consultancy
This session explores how design connects people with places and serves as a catalyst for urban innovation and local development, focusing on "relational design" and "local action." Yuki Uchida will share insights from her cross-regional collaboration experience to reflect on how design shapes the bond between people and places, while sharing future perspectives on "Caring Urbanism" and "Open Cities." Li-Chin Kuo will share insights from her long-term commitment in Taitung, demonstrating how urban-rural planning, industry support, and community development can foster collaboration with local resources and networks. The two speakers will explore from different perspectives how design can respond to local needs, drive cross-disciplinary co-creation, and unlock new possibilities for sustainable regional development.
【Keynote Session 2: Starting from Everyday Life】
|Speaker|Oskar Zięta — Architect, Process designer, Artist of Zieta Studio / Zieta Prozessdesign
|Speaker|Yen-An Chen — Founder and Creative Director of Atelier YenAn
This session focuses on the cross-disciplinary connections between design, materials, and manufacturing, exploring how technological innovation and practical experimentation can break traditional design boundaries and unlock new possibilities for products and industries. Oskar Zięta will introduce FiDU (Free Internal Pressure Forming), a technology that began as an experiment in material innovation and has been applied to furniture, sculpture, architecture, and public spaces. He will also discuss how artificial intelligence, robotics, and emerging manufacturing technologies are transforming design processes and redefining the role of designers. Yen-An Chen will draw from his experience in industrial design, branding, curation, and cultural research to illustrate how collaboration between Taiwanese manufacturers and creators from diverse fields can rediscover the hidden value in materials, technologies, and culture. Through their distinct practical perspectives, the two speakers will explore how to transcend the limits of materials and technology, connect industry with culture, and expand opportunities for cross-disciplinary collaboration.
