Program Introduction & Storylines
🌿 Theme 1|"Herbal Blooms" (Taiwanese Hokkien Session/ Mandarin Session)
Nancy grew up in the United States. Now, she returns to Wanhua to pray for her grandfather, who is in the hospital. Led by a local guide, you’ll join Nancy on a journey through the century-old Herb Lane. Along the way, you’ll taste herbal tea and learn about local medicinal plants.
Then, you’ll walk through Bopiliao Historic Block, passing its red-brick walls and wooden windows as you search for clues left behind by the old tea stalls.
Along this journey filled with the fresh scent of herbs and the atmosphere of old Wanhua, who will Nancy meet? And what will she discover about the resilience, everyday beauty, and human warmth of Wanhua? Come walk the streets with us and find out for yourself.
🍵 Theme 2|"Tea & Stories of Wanhua" (Mandarin & English Bilingual Session / Mandarin Session)
Nancy grew up in the United States and returns to Wanhua to visit her sick grandfather. Join Nancy as a “tea companion” and follow the places her grandfather used to visit, including Golden Peacock, Bangka Teahouse, and Hand-in-Hand Teahouse.
Along the way, Nancy unexpectedly reunites with her old elementary school classmates, Ah Zhu and Mei Man. As old songs play and the aroma of tea fills the air, she learns about the struggles these teahouse women faced while supporting their families, as well as the warmth and companionship they shared with their longtime customers.
Nancy begins to understand that what her grandfather missed was not just the tea, but the warmth of the people and the sense of community that made old Wanhua special.
