What people have always sought is perhaps not flawless deities, but a vast world that wholly embraces every kind of soul.
Huang Lan has long centered her interdisciplinary practice on Butoh, treating the body as a medium to excavate the memories of the land. In recent years, journeying through Indonesia, Nepal, India, Thailand, and across Asia, she has observed the devotional landscapes where people consecrate distinctively shaped stones as divine spirits.
The exhibition weaves together the imagery of stone worship and microcosmic landscape, distilling heaven, earth, and all living beings into intimate scale, and extending sensory perception deep into the soil. The processes of molding and firing reenact the geological genesis of rock, fusing human emotional devotion with aeons of geological memory in a single crucible.
