Event Introduction

Workshop Description

Hello, I'm Kayoung Choi, an artist from Korea. This summer, I'm staying at the Pier-2 Art Center as aresident artist. And I'm looking for someone who can teach me how to make Taiwan's "Typhoon Noodles" — using the canned goods I happen to have in my studio.

To be honest, I've never really experienced a typhoon properly, even back in Korea. I've heard that typhoons here are far more powerful than the ones I grew up with. With no experience and
no preparation at all, can I actually get through this summer's typhoon season safely?

Fortunately, my studio is full of canned food. For a while now I've been researching and making work through canned goods as a medium — but I still have no idea what I can do with them
in a kitchen.

Can you teach me how to make Typhoon Noodles from these cans? Bring what you remember. Leave with a recipe you didn't walk in with.

In this workshop, participants are invited to share and cook their own "Typhoon Noodles" recipes through a collaborative artistic experience. Artist Kayoung Choi will also demonstrate how to prepare a traditional Korean Kimchi Jjigae (Kimchi Stew), creating a space where culinary exchange intertwines with the sharing of personal life stories.

The artist will provide a selection of canned goods, vegetables, noodles, and basic seasonings. If you require any additional specific ingredients, we can visit the convenience store located on the 1 floor of the venue together (small grocery expenses will be covered by the artist).
