Treeansmission – Discovering and Sharing Through Crochet is a practice-based workshop in which participants are invited to interact and communicate through the practice of crafting as both learners and transmitters. As this workshop was imagined and created in relation to the crochet installation Treeansmission, curated by the Trans-Guanyin Collective and made by artist Xonron, participants will be able to add their own crochet creations to the artwork, making it a collaborative installation. The workshop will be led by the artist.
This workshop includes an introduction to crochet, its cultural background, and its development. The main component is the practice, creation, and sharing time, during which each participant will experiment with the technique and different yarns, teaching and learning all at once. The materials (yarns and crochet hooks) will be provided by the artist.
Rather than emphasizing the teaching of the basics of crochet by the artist as a master figure, the workshop aims to explore the creation of bridges and the empowerment of the group through the transmission of craft arts by and through the community. Therefore, the workshop is open to people of all levels of crochet experience, from complete beginners to experienced crocheters.
The concluding part will involve the addition of the participants' works to the crochet installation Treeansmission in Gallery 53 of Treasure Hill.
