2026 Outstanding New Media Art Award Uncompleted Darkness is honored to invite artist Chen Zi Yin, co-founder of Simple Noodle Art, to share how she's been able to engage with the field of astronomy over the past few years while practicing art, and her astronomy-related creative works throughout the experience.
The talk will feature how the artist first took an interest in astronomy, how she brought it into the creative process. She will also go through the behind-the-scenes of some of her astronomy-related works, and how the experience changes the artist's view of the creation process.
The artist will also share some ongoing projects related to astronomy.
“What's fascinating about astronomy to me is not only the distant phenomenon of space or celestial bodies, but also the way it views the world.”
“Astronomy is a practice of understanding the universe with precision, data and theory, while art is more about responding to the universe with feelings, experience and imagination. My creation is sort of like constantly switching between these two perspectives."
"I look forward to exchanging thoughts with everyone about art and technology and what interesting connections they can have."
- Speaker, Chen Zi Yin

Chen Zi Yin
Born in Taiwan in 1995, Chen Zi-Yin lives and works in Taipei. She holds an MFA in New Media Art from Taipei National University of the Arts and is a co-founder of the art collective Simple Noodle Art.
Her practice navigates the boundary between perception and science, exploring how their differences and similarities shape human understanding of reality. She is particularly attentive to the operational logics of the internet, digital technologies, AI, astronomy, and science, and how these systems subtly influence both society and the individual. Her work often integrates multiple media, including space, moving image, installation, and algorithms.
Her work has received an Honorary Mention at the Prix Ars Electronica (2023), an Honorable Mention at the Taipei Art Awards (2023), the NEXT ART TAINAN (2020), and the Nanying Award (2018). Her works have been exhibited at Ars Electronica Festival, Taipei Fine Arts Museum, National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts, Jut Art Museum, Museum of Contemporary Art Taipei, and ARKO Art Center (Seoul). She was also an artist-in-residence at Taiwan Contemporary Culture Lab (C-LAB) under the CREATORS Program.

—— Edgar Allan Poe,《Eureka》
Uncompleted Darkness
“Were the succession of stars endless, then the background of the sky would present us a uniform luminosity...” — Edgar Allan Poe, Eureka Within the medium of the image
the darkness is not a void, but rather the primordial shimmer that precedes the genesis of a digital world. Centered around the theme of "Contemporary Darkness," this exhibition explores the limitless imagination of perception and boundaries as they are extended through technology.
