Whisperings from Uncle Butterfly & The Unheard Spells of Biān-Fú: Compositions of Taiwanese Wild Soundscapes
Presentation by Sam Erpelding (artist in residence)
Time: 19:00, December 13, 2025
Venue: Spatial Audio Field (C-LAB Taiwan Sound Lab)
During his artist residency at C-LAB Taiwan Sound Lab since early December, 2025, the Luxembourgeois artist Sam Erpelding furthered his doctoral research in ecoacoustics and computer music, investigating the soundscapes of Yangmingshan National Park, Yuantan Natural Eco-Park in Alishan and Shuangxi Tropical Arboretum near Kaohsiung. These excursions were conducted in collaboration with the Bat Conservation Society of Taipei and Academica Sinica Taiwan. Several immersive electroacoustic compositions were and are being created to make subtle nuances and inaudible voices of these fragile soundscapes perceptible to our human ears. This presentation features works based on the aforementioned materials, works developed with traditional musicians from Taiwan, and artist talk.
(The residence project is co-organized with Casino Luxembourg and University of Luxembourg and supported by PwC Foundation)
(*biān-fú: “bat” in Chinese)
