<SIN: Stories In the Now>

Friday 12/05 19:30

Feel free to pay at the door~!

SIN: Stories In the Now presents an hour-long fully improvised drama in two acts that creates vulnerable, truthful theatre in real-time. Come witness a story that has never been told before — and will never be told again!

《 Improvisational Theatre 》

It is a form of unscripted theatrical performance. Each performance is inspired by a simple suggestion from the audience, and the actors collaborate on the stage to improvise the drama.

1. Short form improvisation / improv games: Actors challenge specific game rules and restrictions to create improvisations, presented in the form of short plays of approximately 3-5 minutes.

2. Long-form improvisation: This is a long-form improvisational play composed of a series of directly or indirectly connected improvisational scenes. Performances can range from 30 to 90 minutes, or even longer. Like a scripted play, it may have a single or multi-line narrative and may be based on a specific genre (e.g., Shakespearean, mystery, musical, etc.). Regardless of the genre, long-form improvisations begin with audience suggestions and are unscripted and unrehearsed.

Regardless of its form, improvisation involves actors developing dialogue and performances on the fly during a performance. Due to its unpredictable nature and often unexpected plot twists, improvisation often naturally leans towards comedy. Consequently, it is often categorized as a form of energetic and comedic entertainment. In fact, improvisation can also feature moving plots or employ experimental, non-narrative approaches. Improvisation is also a fundamental method of actor training. Many theater companies and artists use it as a tool for developing texts and performance content. It is particularly popular among experimental theater creators, educators, and professional drama therapists.

Lanting:

Lanting first dipped her claws into the improv pool back in 2018 when she started going to FIG's open improv workshops. In 2023, she joined Say When comedy, performing with them regularly for over a year. An improv junkie who loves exploring worlds and relationships with her scene partners, her recent favorite improv character is a murderous child who killed with crayons in an improvised melodrama about a twisted, scheming family.

Sean:

Sean began improv 20 years ago in the USA with his high school chapter of the International Thespian Society, playing short-form games inspired by “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” and ComedySportz. At university, he joined the Elite Ballerina Corps improv group, where he fell in love with long-form improv. He was also privileged to study dramatic improv under Alisa Ivanova of the St. Petersburg State Theatre Arts Academy, using improv as a tool for scripted theater work.

In 2020, Sean became a full-time professional TTRPG game master, relying on improv to create and adapt stories on the fly.

In 2023, he became a member of Formosa Improv Group, Say When Comedy, and Three Body Problem.

You can catch him monthly with FIG at Two Three Comedy, weekly with Three Body Problem at Another Brick, and as co-producer/host of the 3x3 Taipei Improv Battle at Two Three Comedy. Sean is excited to dive into narrative, character-driven dramatic improv with Stories In the Now!

Whalther:

Whalther is a theatre-maker, improv performer, and storyteller from Paraguay, now based in Taipei. They started performing at 8 years old on a kids' radio show and just... never stopped. Their work focuses on narrative, emotional truth, and the little chaos that makes characters feel real. They've trained and performed across Latin America and Taiwan, and are a founding member of SIN: Stories In the Now, where story always comes first. When not onstage, they're probably writing plays, running TTRPGs, or being emotionally devastated by fictional characters of their own creation.
