《Think》：查爾斯與雷．伊姆斯的跨學科展示

設計師與策展人邵達輝博士（Dr. Eric Schuldenfrei），亦為專著《The Films of Charles and Ray Eames: A Universal Sense of Expectation》的作者，將在本講座中，從1950年代末期起伊姆斯夫婦的創作脈絡出發，重新闡釋多螢幕電影《THINK》在其整體創作中的定位。這一時期的伊姆斯夫婦逐漸從以消費文化為導向的設計實踐，轉向更廣泛的社會與哲學思考。這樣的自我省思與冷戰時期的時代氛圍密切相關——當時許多設計師開始質疑自身創作的目的與社會責任。
講座內容將從包浩斯的「整體劇場」（Total Theater）談起，延伸至早期電腦科技與軍事體系之間的糾結關係，以及鐵幕兩側在多重媒介運用上的異同與發展。現場亦將播放《The Information Machine》（1958）、《THINK》（1964）與《Image of the City》（1969）等影片片段。
在講座之後，邵達輝博士將與藝術家楊嘉輝展開對談，探討本次展覽委託新作《展亭》（Pavilion），以及其如何與伊姆斯夫婦及其同時代創作者的理念與關懷產生共鳴。

Dr. Eric Schuldenfrei—designer, curator, and author of the monograph The Films of Charles and Ray Eames: A Universal Sense of Expectation—will contextualize the multi-screen film THINK within the oeuvre of the Eameses' from the late 1950s onwards, when there was a general shift in their practice away from consumer culture and towards broader social and philosophical inquiries. This moment of introspection was closely related to events of the Cold War, when designers began to question their sense of purpose. This lecture will cover topics ranging from the Bauhaus Total Theater, to early computer's entanglement with the military, to the use of multi-source media on both sides of the Iron Curtain. Excerpts from The Information Machine (1958), Think (1964), and Image of the City (1969) will also be shown. Dr. Schuldenfrei's lecture will be followed by a conversation between the speaker and the artist on the commissioned work Pavillion, and its resonance with the concerns of the Eameses' and their peers.
