Weaving Journeys with Craft — Together Into a Life of Making
In 2025, the “June 5 Creative Crafts Festival” sets off with Craft Journeys, under the guiding theme: Craft Without Borders, Craft Is Infinite. This year’s festival connects culturally rich craft destinations across Taiwan, blending travel with hands-on experience to bring craft out of the gallery and into everyday life—as something to be touched, felt, and shared.
Ten themed routes have been thoughtfully designed, spanning the north, central, south, and east regions, and tailored for different ages and interests. The festival invites everyone to step into the world of craft and explore its boundless possibilities.
This journey of craft, woven from the threads of land and culture, leads participants to local studios where they can create with their own hands. In the act of making, they rediscover the connection between people, place, and tradition—uncovering the everyday wisdom and values of life in Taiwan.

⟣ A soulful journey, painted with the colors of Indigenous heritage ——
Taitung is often called Taiwan’s last natural haven. Journey into Jinlun, a coastal Paiwan village where sea meets sky, and discover stories passed down through generations. From ancient mythology to traditional crafts, every detail reflects the spirit of the Paiwan people. Guided by local artisans, you’ll experience the wisdom of Paiwan craftsmanship—woven one stitch at a time through the horn needle technique.
As the journey moves northward along the coast and into the forested hills, Jianhe Tribe comes into view—no longer the quiet village it once was. Once home to traditional deer sheds, it is now a vibrant gathering place for young artisans. Here, nature’s materials are transformed into refined pieces of craft, telling the story of a community rebuilding itself through creativity. And if you’re lucky, you might even find a one-of-a-kind piece at the local craft market to take home.

⟣ Hear the "nasi" of the village——
As more people gradually left the village, the stories of Jinlun began to fade. Yet a group of young people founded Pinuliman Studio, breathing new life into local traditions by weaving together community stories and indigenous crafts. Through collecting, documenting, and reinterpreting, they have created a space where the cultural memory of the village can live on.
By hosting guided walks and storytelling activities, they continue to share the essence of Jinlun. In doing so, the Paiwan culture of Jinlun begins to "nasi"—to breathe again—becoming a living, growing force rooted in the land.

⟣ The cultural beauty drawn by caring hands——
Under the skilled hands of vuvu (a Paiwan term for grandparents and elders), vibrant threads weave the stories of the village, each knot carrying the spirit of the people’s craftsmanship. Tomi, the owner of Tomi Handwoven Studio, moved to Jinlun from her hometown in Changbin, where she is of the Amis tribe. Witnessing the slow fading of precious traditional techniques passed down by the elders, she embarked on the path of reviving the horn needle weaving craft.

⟣ Taste the warmth of Paiwan family traditions ——
The word umaq means "home" in Paiwan. The people of Jinlun cherish every blessing from the heavens, carefully managing the resources of nature. Using the collective wisdom of the tribe, they transform these gifts into warm, nourishing dishes, offering comfort and warmth to every traveler who finds themselves in Jinlun.

⟣ A youth craft hub from Jianhe——
In the past, Jianhe Tribe was home to a deer shed, a place nurtured by the tragic legend of the sacred deer and the princess, and a sanctuary for many generations of the tribe. After many years of storms and trials, the youth returned to Jianhe and transformed the old deer shed into a new community hub. Beyond rebuilding their community, these young people also established craft workshops here. To travelers of the tribe, please pause here for a moment, and listen to the stories of the village and the journeys of its artisans.
