The New Taipei City Art Museum values the social connections and public service functions of art museums and is committed to fostering broad public participation. Adhering to the principle of "Rooted Locally, Facing Globally," the museum focuses on modern and contemporary art and visual culture from the 20th century onward through research, collection, exhibitions, and outreach.
This forum responds to ongoing international discourse in the museum field concerning the social role of museums, sustainable development, and transregional collaboration. It explores how cultural and artistic institutions can engage with diverse social phenomena, cultural ecologies, and complex historical narratives through an open and inclusive approach to knowledge production and operational strategies. At this formative stage, we aim to gather collective insights by convening leading scholars and experts from Taiwan and abroad to examine the present through the lens of the future. Through open dialogue, the forum will investigate the role of contemporary art museums in fostering communication and transformation amid the converging crises of global sociopolitical dynamics, economic shifts, and climate change.
The forum will be structured around four key themes:
- The Social Role of Art Museums
- New Forms of Art and Cultural Institutions
- Transregional Perspectives and Artistic Praxis
- Collections and Curatorial Practice in Art Museums
Discussions will focus on inter-institutional collaborations and networks, the dynamics of community-driven co-creation, and the role of artistic practices in fostering transregional research and exchange. Furthermore, the forum will examine how museums can develop innovative collection and curatorial strategies to engage with contemporary society.
