活動簡介

EVENT CANCELLED DUE TO TYPHOON

Join Amnesty International’s Urgent Action Network, come gather with us to write letters that help to halt executions, support human rights defenders and free prisoners of conscience—people jailed solely for the peaceful expression of their beliefs and identity.

Amnesty Urgent Actions ask our community to flood the mailboxes, inboxes, phones and social media of authorities when someone is in imminent danger of human rights violations.

Our Urgent Action gatherings in Taiwan take action for a fairer world. Because of the actions of individuals, lives have been saved, unfair laws have changed, the wrongfully imprisoned have been released. The words we write can change lives and make a difference.

At the event, we will come together as a group of people - anyone can join - to take action on a case concerning human rights abuses. We will provide you with details of the urgent action and suggestions about what to write. Paper and pens will be provided, afterwards we will collect your letters to post. This is a community event so there will also be some time for mingling and getting to know each other better.

For this month's urgent action we will be calling for a fair trial of two Indonesian fishermen who face charges of imprisonment and unjust criminalization linked to their activities as environmental activists.

Indonesia has committed to ensuring environmental sustainability and achieving net-zero emissions "by 2060 or sooner" as part of efforts in tackling the climate crisis. However, environmental activists in Indonesia are increasingly harassed and criminalized when state and economic actors perceive their activities as a hindrance to the implementation of development policies. Between January 2019 and June 2024, Amnesty International recorded at least 18 cases of arrests, attacks, and intimidation of environmental activists who defended their rights to land and a healthy environment, with 24 victims.

This event is free to attend, we just ask all participants to purchase an item from the venue's menu to support the space.
