Sara

Excel

Fang Wu🩷

Love Binti International
Love Binti

English

There are a variety of menstrual products available for purchase on supermarket shelves in Taiwan; however, girls in East and Southern Africa interrupt their studies because they cannot afford sanitary napkins and lack comprehensive hygiene education. They live below the poverty line. The daily expenditure is less than NT$60, and a pack of sanitary napkins costs NT$34.8, making sanitary products a luxury item.

2024/7/20-21 We sincerely invite you to come to Huashan 1914 Cultural and Creative Industry Park to participate in DIY activities, and sew reusable pads.
Let's help African girls have worry-free periods every month.

💖All surplus from the activities will be reinvested into the African side project💖

✅ Introduction:Have you heard of "period poverty"? Period poverty refers to the social phenomenon where women, due to economic hardship, cannot afford or obtain sufficient menstrual products, leading to long-term negative impacts on their lives. This is not only an issue in economically disadvantaged countries but also a global challenge that needs urgent attention.

In rural Africa, women often cannot afford basic menstrual products. Some girls even resort to transactional sex to obtain sanitary pads. Providing reusable pads reduces the economic burden of buying disposable pads each month, which can amount to approximately 120,000 Ugandan Shillings (986 TWD) annually. This money can now be redirected to education, food, or health. By reducing economic dependency, women can regain control over their bodies and livelihood choices. In other words, "reusable pads set them free."

We call on our partners in the northern region to join us in this DIY event to sew reusable cloth sanitary pads and help African girls have worry-free periods every month.

💚 Refreshments will be available on-site. Please bring your reusable cup; the earth thanks you!
💚 There will also be a charity sale of African handicrafts on the day of the event. Feel free to invite friends and family.
💚 Each ticket is a raffle. Thanks to our sponsors for providing gifts that will be drawn during the event

✅ Sharing|Sara Liu, Chairperson and Founder of the Love Binti International
During an aid trip to Africa, Sara witnessed the hardships and inconveniences faced by women in African countries. Due to the lack of education and resources, women are unable to receive proper assistance and supplies during their menstrual periods, leading to the spread of diseases and psychological issues, trapping them in a vicious cycle. Through donations of supplies and teaching women how to make cloth sanitary pads, Sara hopes to extend these skills and education to various regions, helping more girls in need, transforming the lives of women, and bringing positive impacts to their lives.

The sharing will be conducted in Chinese during the first and third sessions.

✅ Sharing|Swalle Excel Kafeero, Uganda Project Manager
Excel is an important member of the water resources project in Uganda, actively participating in the collaboration and promoting the establishment of effective processes and management mechanisms, showcasing his competence and capabilities. Despite being born in a slum, he earned a master's degree in supply chain management in Uganda through his own efforts and is currently pursuing a master's degree in sustainable development in Taiwan.

In Taiwan, he endures being away from his wife and daughter and adapts to a new language and culture, while experiencing and learning about the conveniences that are vastly different from Africa, such as wireless internet, the MRT, and EasyCard payments. Through the stories of Excel and other African partners, we see their resilience and desire for change.

The sharing will be conducted in English with translation during the second and fourth sessions.

✅ Sewing Introduction|
Girls in rural East Africa are in urgent need of menstrual products. Living below the poverty line, they are unable to attend school during their periods, sometimes even sitting on the ground waiting for their menstruation to end. However, just a cloth sanitary pad can change all this!

Love Binti has been running projects in Africa for a long time, helping over 150,000 women learn to sew reusable pads to end period poverty. In Taiwan, we also invite people to sew for the girls. The completed reusable pads will be sent to Africa as gifts for girls.

✅ African Market|
Each item is handmade and unique, coming from Africa. The proceeds from the sale will go back to the Love Binti. The charity sale will primarily feature products on-site, including soapstone, wood carvings, woven and fabric items, and more.

🩷Special guest for the fourth session|Fang Wu🩷
Wen Fang, a well-known Taiwanese singer, saw that Love Binti cares for women and girls during their menstrual periods in East Africa and has improved 150,000 women through reusable pads and hygiene education.
She will show up in the fourth session to participate, invite fans to join in the event, and positively influence society!
