臺灣保存並陸續修復許多精彩華語默片電影，C-LAB臺灣聲響實驗室與國家電影及視聽文化中心（簡稱國影中心）攜手合作，打造「華語默片電影作曲計畫」，期待透過當代音樂/聲響與影像的再創作，賦予經典華語默片電影新的生命樣貌與光彩。此計畫透過公開徵選機制遴選出作曲家林煒傑、劉蕙雯，另邀請作曲家王思雅，分別為默片電影《戀愛與義務》15 至20 分鐘片段進行音樂創作。《戀愛與義務》默片作曲計畫音樂會共有三個段落，呈現三位作曲家的音樂作品結合重新詮釋剪輯後的電影影像，新舊融合再創造，帶給觀眾耳目一新的經驗。
作曲家王思雅為2010年臺北數位藝術節國際策展人之一，作品曾獲日本入野義朗紀念獎首獎，長期與音樂家合作演出，研發新技術與聲響表演。林煒傑的作品以當代音樂風格為主，作品曾獲荷蘭Gaudeamus Muziek 音樂節作曲佳作獎、臺灣「兩廳院樂典—國人音樂創作甄選」室內樂及器樂獨奏獎等。劉蕙雯現就讀於哥倫比亞芝加哥學院電影配樂碩士班（Music Composition for the Screen,Columbia College Chicago）， 長期以來， 積極參與音樂創作、劇場音樂、電影配樂、管弦樂作曲與編曲、國樂和流行樂等跨界合作與活動。

傳奇女星阮玲玉默片經典，從青春少女一直演到垂暮老嫗，精彩詮釋為愛拋家棄子的有夫之婦，對傳統禮教下戀愛與婚姻的複雜難題提出深刻叩問。《戀愛與義務》原被認定散佚，1990 年代時由華僑從烏拉圭寄回捐贈的影片中尋獲，為現今僅存的拷貝，現由國家電影及視聽文化中心典藏保存， 並於2013 年完成數位修復。

C-LAB Taiwan Sound Lab and Taiwan Film and Audiovisual Institute co-organize the "Chinese-language Silent Films Composition Project" to promote Chinese-language silent films preserved in Taiwan, endowing new spirit and splendour into classic Chinese-language silent films through recreations using contemporary music and images. Composers LIN Wei-Chieh, LIU Hui-Wen, and WANG Sue-Ya jointly create new soundtracks based on selected 15 to 20 minutes excerpts from the silent film Love and Duty, re-edited into new interpretations of the film scenes that will be shown in the Cine-concert of Love and Duty, triggering new sensations by the fusion of polar elements.
Composer WANG, the curator of the "2010 Digital Art Festival Taipei", develops new sound techniques; Composer LIN is an active composer and has received the Honorable Mention of the Gaudeamus Muziek Prize, and LIU, currently studying at the "Music Composition for the Screen” postgraduate program in Columbia College Chicago, actively participates in various types of music creation.

Love and Duty (1931)

Format: Black and white, partly tinted. Silent film with Chinese and English intertitles. Digital Restoration by TFAI (2013).
Brilliantly portraying Nai-fang from youth to old age, legendary screen goddess RUN Ling-Yu exquisitely spells out the tragic fate of women in the patriarchal society. Production in the Golden Age of Chinese Cinema in the 1930s, Love and Duty was considered lost for decades, until a nitrate print was discovered in Uruguay and shipped to Taiwan in the 1990s. Its digital restoration was completed by TFAI in 2013.
