◆Selda Asal(Apartment Project

Apartment Project

◆Benjamin Perrot(El Warcha

El Warcha

About the Panelists and Their Organizations

 Selda Asal(Founder of Apartment Project)

Selda Asal is a video artist from Turkey. After studying musicology and art, Asal became one of the pioneering figures of Istanbul’s expanding contemporary art scene in the 1990s. In line with her inclination for working collectively, she launched Apartment Project in 1999 as one of the first artist-operated initiative spaces in Istanbul with a focus on interdisciplinary sharing, teamwork, and process-oriented production.

Apartment Project

Apartment Project, one of the first artist initiatives of Turkey, was founded by Selda Asal in Istanbul in 1999 with the intention of keeping a record of the zeitgeist. Selda and Apartment Project eventually relocated to Berlin in 2012 and this space has been a living, production and exhibition space for artists and researchers ever since.

Benjamin Perrot(Founder of El Warcha)

Benjamin Perrot is interested in experimentation and in a collaborative approach to art, design and the built environment. Play is often the starting point and the end product of my work, a chance to make things collectively based on intuition and enjoyment. He believes in promoting new forms of learning that encourage people to experiment, rather than disseminating 'expert' knowledge.

El Warcha

El Warcha, means workshop in Arabic, it is a collective and maker-space founded in 2016 in the medina of Tunis, Tunisia. It aims to promote alternative forms of education and civic actions through the making of urban furniture and art installations. The idea of learning by making is central to this practice and all the activities revolve around live projects.
