Speaker: Dr. Chia- Chi Teng

Title: Developing Cybersecurity Curriculum in Taiwan Higher Education   

開發台灣高等教育網路資安課程

Presentation Summary: Cybersecurity is an increasingly critical challenge in businesses, government, communication and infrastructure. However, engineers with necessary professional training and skills are lacking. Higher education needs to develop up-to-date curriculum to bridge the gap.
網路資訊安全是目前工商政府機構面對的重要挑戰。但是業界短缺具有專業訓練技能的工程師。高等教育必須開發適當因應課程。

Speaker’s biography:  Dr. Chia-Chi Teng is an Associate Professor of Information Technology and Cybersecurity at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah USA. He was also a Senior Software Engineer and Manager at Microsoft for 17 years developing Windows Operating Systems and other applications. Dr. Teng is currently a visiting faculty at National Tsing Hua University teaching an Information Assurance and Cybersecurity course.
鄧家祺博士現任美國楊百翰大學資訊網路安全副教授。之前曾在美國微軟任資深軟體工程師及經理開發視窗作業系統。目前在國立清華大學資工系客座。

Speaker: Dr. Latoya Kamdang

Title:  Indigenous Site Planning & Architecture in Taiwan: Exploration Of Environmentally Sensitive Design Techniques
台灣原住民族之敷地計畫及建築學: 環境敏感設計技術之探勘

Presentation Summary: Latoya’s research explores indigenous architecture in Kucapungane and Lanyu. Both indigenous tribes in Taiwan have a long history of thoughtful environmental planning and architecture but each community has designed for unique conditions.
洪麗雅教授的研究在於探討屏東縣好茶村及蘭嶼之原住民族傳統建築。兩個部落均有周全的環境建築設計,但卻各有依據當地條件所為之獨特設計。

Speaker’s biography: Latoya Nelson Kamdang is a U.S. Fulbright Senior Scholar in Taiwan. Her host institution is the Graduate Institute of Building and Planning at National Taiwan University. She is a Registered Architect, Certified Interior Designer, and LEED Accredited Professional. Her experience spans architecture, planning, exhibit design, industrial design, and interior design. Latoya has developed her career in practice while maintaining a connection to academic research and teaching at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY.
洪麗雅教授為美籍台灣傅爾布萊特計畫資深學者,目前受台灣大學建築與城鄉研究所邀請,進行訪問研究。她持有建築師證照、室內設計師證照、且為美國綠建築專業人員,擁有不同領域之經歷包含建築學、建築策劃、展覽設計、工業設計、室內設計。洪麗雅教授從實務經驗中獲取就業所需技能且繼續從事學術研究及擔任普瑞特藝術學院的教職。

Title: Passages: Presenting American Poetry in Taiwan & Teaching NTU Students the Art of Poetry Translation

Presentation Summary: Overview of teaching/research fellowship at NTU: 1) Two-term sequence teaching Modern Am. Poetry.  2) Spring term student workshop translating 13 contemporary Taiwan poets for a future 300 page bilingual anthology. 
概述在台大外文系的教學與研究:1)兩個學期的美國現代詩歌課程回顧 2)春季學期學生翻譯工作坊對十三位台灣詩人的翻譯及未來雙語詩選集的出版計劃。

Speaker’s biography: Poet, translator, editor George O'Connell has taught creative writing and literature many years in both US and Chinese universities.  Fulbright professor at Peking Univ., currently at National Taiwan U.  Numerous honors include Pablo Neruda Prize in Poetry, National Endowment for the Arts Literature Fellowship in Translation.  Co-directs Pangolin House, international journal of Chinese and English-language poetry and art.
喬治·歐康奈爾,中文名喬直,美國詩人、譯者,雙語詩刊《Pangolin House》主編。曾在美國與中國多所大學教授文學及創意寫作,兩度傅爾布萊特學者。所獲榮譽包括巴勃羅·聶魯達詩歌獎、美國國家藝術基金會翻譯獎等。

Speaker: Ms. Dylan O’Donoghue

Title: Understanding Human Trafficking in Taiwan
了解台灣人口販運問題

Presentation Summary: In this presentation, Dylan will discuss her research from this year. She will present on the following topics: human trafficking, money laundering, and human rights law. 
透過此次演講,黛蘭將講述本年度所進行的研究,議題囊括人口販運,洗錢,以及人權法律。

Speaker’s biography: Dylan is a Fulbright Student Fellow, and she also has a Boren Fellowship. Her research topic is understanding Taiwan's methods of fighting human trafficking. She will receive her Masters in Legal Studies this summer from Drexel University.
黛蘭為美籍台灣傅爾布萊特訪問學人,同時為Boren國際獎助學人(Boren Fellowship),她的研究聚焦於了解台灣如何解決人口販運之問題。今年夏天,黛蘭將於Drexel University畢業,取得法學研究碩士學位。

Speaker: Ms. Natalie Sun

Title: Assessing Lead Pollution in Wild Taiwanese Carnivores: Paving the Way for Noninvasive Sampling
評估台灣野生肉食動物的鉛污染:非侵略性採樣法取徑

Presentation Summary: Natalie’s research explores the impact of heavy metal pollution on Taiwan’s wildlife populations and assesses the feasibility of a less invasive sampling procedure.
孫維慈的研究探討了重金屬污染對台灣野生動物族群的影響,同時評估低侵入性採樣方法的可行性。

Speaker’s biography: Natalie Sun hails from Northern California and received her undergraduate degree from Amherst College. She discovered her passion for veterinary medicine after researching wild tree swallows and hoped to continue her exploration of this interdisciplinary field through her Fulbright research. Natalie is excited to share and apply her new experiences when she attends UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine this fall.
孫維慈來自北加州,畢業於艾姆赫斯特學院(Amherst college),從野生樹燕研究中發現了自己對獸醫學的熱忱,期望通過傅爾布萊特的研究,繼續探索跨領域學科的知識。她即將在今年秋天進入加州大學戴維斯分校(UC Davis) 攻讀獸醫學院,希望能將此次經驗與成果應用在未來道路上。

Title: The Role of Social Support in Vocational Rehabilitation for Indigenous People with Disabilities in Taiwan   社會支持在台灣身心障礙原住民職業康復過程中扮演的角色

Presentation Summary: This presentation will discuss the effect of social support for indigenous people with disability when they are looking for employment, based on surveys and interviews of social support providers and recipients.   
演講將根據對社會支持提供者(社工,就服員,諮商師,等)和接受者的問卷調查和訪談,討論社會支持對台灣身心障礙原住民職業康復的影響。

Speaker’s biography: Dr. Chih-Chin Chou is the Director and Associate Professor of the Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling at the College of Behavioral and Community Science, University of South Florida.  Her research interests include Psychiatric Rehabilitation, Social Support, Vocational Rehabilitation, and Positive Psychology.
周志津博士是南佛羅里達行為與社區科學學院復健與心理諮商所的所長兼副教授。周博士的研究興趣包括精神疾病康復,社會支持,身心障礙職業重建, 和正向心理學。

Title: Implementing English Teaching Strategies in Taiwanese Classrooms  理論與實踐的結合:台灣課堂實施英語教學之策略  

Presentation Summary: As the Fulbright Teaching Scholar,  my work focuses on helping the Fulbright English Teaching Assistants and Taiwanese local English teachers incorporate research-based language teaching practices into the classroom.  
大部分的Fulbright學者專注於研究,Dr. Tang則聚焦於協助英語協同教學助理(ETA),以及台灣當地的英語教師將研究理論實踐於課堂當中。

Speaker’s biography: Dr. Agnes Tang is an assistant professor at Texas A&M University-Central Texas where teaches reading, language development, and ESL Methods. Prior to that, she taught nine years in K-12 public schools in California and Texas.  She is passionate about sharing her love of picture books with English teachers in Taiwan.  
Dr. Agnes Tang為A&M University-Central Texas大學的助理教授,主要教授閱讀、語言發展以及英語為第二語言學習(ESL)。Dr. Tang擁有在加州以及德州公立學校(K-12學制)任教9年的經驗,同時也相當熱衷與在台英語教師分享她對繪本的喜愛。

Title: Planetary Urbanization in Taiwan: Investigating Urban Typologies & Exploring Alternative Cartography  臺灣的行星都市化 : 調查城市類型學暨設計新型態製圖學   

Presentation Summary: This presentation will give an overview of the existing methods of understanding Taiwanese urbanization and situate these methodologies within the discourse on planetary urbanization and related critical cartography.
此演講將概述瞭解臺灣城市化的現有方法論,並將這些方法學置於行星都市化和相關的批判製圖學論述中。

Speaker’s biography: Elijah Ness is a 2018-2019 visiting researcher at National Chengchi University’s Department of Land Economics. A recent graduate of Vassar College where he majored in Urban Studies and Chinese Language, his research interests include urban theory, cartography and visualization, and contemporary visual culture in Taiwan and China. 
2018-2019年國立政治大學地政學系的訪問學者--年伊萊。畢業於瓦薩學院,城市研究與漢語雙專業。研究興趣包括城市理論、製圖學與可視化、及臺灣和中國的當代視覺文化。

Speaker: Anika Ullah 

Title: Investigating Culturally Compatible Approaches to Decreasing Betel Quid Linked Oral Cancer in Indigenous and Working-Class Taiwan 探討文化與健康兼容的方法:台灣原住民、勞工與檳榔   

Presentation Summary: Ullah shares her multidisciplinary project investigating culturally-compatible strategies for decreasing betel nut-linked oral cancer in indigenous/working class Taiwan through community-driven scientific research, documentary film, health policy, and applied anthropology.
Ullah分享她的多學科項目,通社區驅動的科學研究,紀錄片,健康政策和用人學研究文化相容的策略,以減少臺灣原住民/工人階級中與榔相關的口腔癌。

Speaker’s biography: Anika Ullah is a Bangladeshi-American scientist, multimedia artist, and activist who is currently a National Geographic Explorer, Fulbright Taiwan Research Fellow, and incoming MIT Media Lab graduate student. She synthesizes storytelling, community-driven scientific research, and engagement with policymaking for global health activism and environmental justice in underserved communities.

Speaker: Beng Lay Kou 

Title: Integrating Best Practices in Taiwanese Culture of Learning into the American Pedagogy 將台灣學習文化中的最佳實踐融入美國教育學

Presentation Summary: This presentation traces the journey of an elementary school teacher who chose, as part of her Fulbright project, to study teaching best practices in Taiwan and explore the rich cultural traditions of the Taiwanese people. 
本演講描述了一名小學教師的旅程,以傅爾布萊特卓越教學獎助計畫,研究台灣的教學最佳實踐,和探索台灣人民豐富的文化傳統。

Speaker’s biography: Lay Kou is a dual language immersion teacher in Utah. Prior to receiving the Fulbright Distinguished Awards in Teaching, she was awarded Teacher of the Month thrice, KSL News Radio & Zions Bank Teacher Feature, and District Outstanding Educator of the Year. Her Fulbright project focused on Taiwanese culture and teaching best practices.
馮鳴麗是猶他州的雙語沉浸式項目教師。在獲得傅爾布萊特卓越教學獎助計畫之前,她三次獲得本月最佳教師獎,KSL新聞廣播和Zions銀行教師獎,以及學區年度傑出教育家獎。 她的傅爾布萊特項目專注於台灣文化和教學最佳實踐。

Speaker: Evelyn Shen

Title: Great Minds Mature Slowly: Early Child Development in the Taiwanese Context

Presentation Summary: Evelyn's project explores Early Intervention in Taiwan and highlights the experiences of parents of children with developmental delay while probing the social thinking behind the proverb “大器晚成,” or “Great minds mature slowly.

Speaker’s biography: Evelyn was born and bred in Dallas, Texas but ventured out to the Midwest for her undergraduate studies. After exploring different fields, she finally settled on an Anthropology major with a focus on global health since it brought in a human element to the field of medicine, which she felt was needed to balance out the heavy emphasis on the sciences. She worked in an Occupational Therapy lab during the summer of 2017 and was introduced to the topic of early child development. During this time, she applied for the Fulbright research grant and based her project proposal on her newfound interest in this area, hoping to probe it further and expand on her global health experience. She will be attending UCLA in the fall for medical school. No, she does not know what she wants to specialize in yet, but yes, it’ll probably have something to do with kids.

Title: How to pray for rain: an easy guide for civil officials 明代地方官寫「祈雨文」的修辭特點

Presentation Summary: This lecture will examine the major rhetorical features of the “rain prayer” as a literary genre, and the performance of rain prayers by Ming dynasty (1368-1644) civil officials.
此演講將分析明代地方官寫「祈雨文」的修辭特點,同時探討明代地方官如何在旱災時用祈雨儀式來維持地方社會秩序。

Speaker’s biography: Dr. Timothy Clifford is a 2018-2019 Fulbright scholar and visiting researcher at Academia Sinica in the Institute of History and Philology. His project focuses on environmental prayers authored by local government officials in sixteenth and seventeenth-century China, and what these prayers can tell us about state management of environmental crises.
柯靖銘博士是2018-2019年傅爾布萊特交換學者,也是中央研究院歷史語言研究所的訪問學者。他的研究主題是明代地方官寫的「祈雨文」、「祈清文」以及各種關於環境災害之類的祈禱文獻。
