🗣 Elaine Shi / Co-founder & Chief Scientist of ThunderCore
Thunder is a practical instantiation of the Thunderella paradigm, enabling high-performance consensus in a decentralized, permissionless environment, and is currently being implemented by ThunderCore. I will describe the latest improvements to the Thunder protocol. Using Thunder as an example, I will explain why classical modeling techniques adopted by 30 years of distributed consensus literature are insufficient for capturing the robustness properties we care about in practical systems. I will then describe our work in which we rethink the underlying models for studying the security of consensus protocols.
Thunder 區塊鏈是 Thunderella 這類共識演算法的一個實作，在分散、無須徵求任何事先許可的環境中，達成高效共識，也是 ThunderCore 團隊正在建構的系統。此演講會描述 Thunder 共識協議的最新發展與改進，並以 Thunder 為例，解釋過去 30 年學術文獻中對分散式共識演算法的建模技巧，未何不足以捕捉我們實務上最在意的系統穩固性。接著將描述我們在研究工作中如何重新思考探討共識協議安全性時該使用的模型。
Elaine Shi is an Associate Professor at Cornell. She co-founded IC3 and ThunderCore and is currently serving as the Chief Scientist at ThunderCore. She wrote the first peer-reviewed academic publications on Bitcoin and decentralized smart contracts. She has received numerous awards for her work including the Packard Fellowship, the Sloan Fellowship, the ONR YIP Award, and numerous best paper awards.
Elaine Shi 卡內基美隆大學 (CMU) 資訊科學博士，現任康乃爾大學 (Cornell U) 資訊科學副教授。Elaine是加密貨幣發展的先行者、IC3的聯合創辦人，與研究夥伴共同發表了第一篇關於比特幣和分散式智能合約的學術論文，也是第一位教授智能合約撰寫課程的教授。 在加入康乃爾大學前，Elaine 曾任馬里蘭大學 (U of Maryland) 助理教授，Xerox PARC 研究員，加利福尼亞大學柏克萊分校 (UC, Berkeley) 研究員。除發表超過50篇學術論文外，還獲得眾多獎項，包括Packard 獎、斯隆獎 (Sloan Fellowship)、ONR YIP獎，以及多項最佳研究論文獎。

什麼是區塊鏈手機？EXODUS 團隊是如何透過行動裝置，成為區塊鏈生態系的一大助力？
Before her role as the PM for HTC Exodus, she was the Relationship Manager for VIVE VR Ecosystem, promoting the VIVE reality throughout APAC region. She has joined HTC for almost 6 years and was the Technical Account Manager managing telecom operator requirement compliances. She has a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin.
Lisa Chu 朱玉瑄，現任HTC EXODUS 產品經理。加入區塊鏈團隊之前，擔任Relationship Manager ，負責VIVE在亞太區生態圈的推廣。在HTC任職超過六年，先前在HTC手機部門擔任Technical Account Manager ，為客戶處理專案技術問題並協助建立HTC產品在南亞市場的推廣。擁有德州州立大學奧斯汀分校學士學位。
