活動簡介

<活動簡介 Introduction>

3D printing technology was recognized as "The Third Industrial Revolution." Former President of the United States, Obama, also highlighted it as something that could fuel new high-tech jobs in the United States. However, as early as 2016, the bubble of consumer 3D printing industry burst. Numerous startups in the field were shut down. The stock price of larger firms plummeted.

Although 3D printing is not as sexy as Artificial Intelligence, after the challenge, the application and projects that survived are closer to truely benefit patients. This event, we invited specialists from an Industrial Technology Research Institute, surgery, and entrepreneur to share their thoughts on the opportunities for 3D printing in healthcare and how it can make an impact to humanity.  Although 3D printing is not as sexy as Artificial Intelligence, after the challenge, the application and projects that survived are closer to really benefiting patients.

3DHeals is a San Francisco Bay Area-based International community, aiming at connecting healthcare professionals, entrepreneurs, developers, designers, and regulators that are interested in healthcare-related 3D printing technology. It is the world’s largest community of its kind, having events all over North/ South America, Asia, Europe and Australia. This community helps build a platform for both collaborative research and education in 3D printing technology.

<講者介紹 Speakers>

Jenny Chen, MD

Dr. Jenny Chen is a Neuroradiologist at Stanford University Hospital. She is also the founder of 3DHeals, the world’s largest educational community for researchers, entrepreneurs, clinicians, and regulators who are doing healthcare-focused 3D printing technology.

She received her MD degree at UCLA Medical School, completed her residency at UCLA Medical Center and Neuroradiology fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital.

Jui-Yu Chen, MD

Dr. Jui-Yu Chen is an attending surgeon at the Division of General Surgery, Taipei Veterans General Hospital and a director at Taiwan Association of Endocrine Surgeons. He completed his research fellowship at the Division of Endocrine Surgery at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Hospital and Columbia University Medical Center. His excellence in thyroid surgery has helped tens of thousands of patients. He has never stopped the pursuit of improving clinical outcome. He introduced Transoral thyroidectomy which is a surgery that can remove pathologic thyroid through the incision in the mouth, keeping the surgical scar invisible. This procedure is highly technical dependent. Dr. Chen is optimizing the outcome and lowering the complication rate of this surgery by creating innovative devices through 3D design and printing technology.

Yi-Ting Yeh, MD

Dr. Yi-Ting Yeh is an attending surgeon at the Division of Pediatric Surgery, Taipei Veterans General Hospital, Taiwan and a lecturer of Surgery at National Yang-Ming University. Previously, he had conducted in several clinical studies in the implication of Three-Dimensional Printing and was awarded for the best paper in Surgical Field in 2015, Journal of Chinese Medical Association and was honored of the rising star award at 2017 Joint International Congress of International Liver Transplantation Society, ELITA & LICAGE. Yeh received his MD degree from National Yang-Ming University, Taipei, Taiwan.

Wei-Chin Huang, PhD

Wei-Chin Huang is an engineer/researcher at the Laser & Additive Manufacturing Technology Center, ITRI, Taiwan. He previously served as the project leader of the research projects for Medical Device Product using Additive Manufacturing, ITRI, and R&D specialist at the Factory of Intelligent Additive Manufacturing Medical Devices, ITRI. Huang received his master and Ph.D. degree of Materials Science and Engineering from National Cheng-Kung University, Tainan, Taiwan.

Chao-Ming Chen, MD

Dr. Chao-Ming Chen is an Orthopedic surgeon at the Therapeutical and Research Center of Musculoskeletal Tumor at Taipei Veterans General Hospital. Chen received his MD degree at Taipei Medical University. His research focuses on applying 3D technologies in optimizing the care of Musculoskeletal tumor patients. His cross-disciplinary and in-depth experience in both 3D printing and MSK surgical oncology make him an outstanding clinical innovator. The work, he and his team, developed has benefited numerous surgeons and patients.

Jimmy J.M. Su, PhD

Jimmy J.M. Su is currently the CEO of the Enlighten Materials Ltd. company, which is a spin-off company from National Yang Ming University. He has 10 years of research experience at National Health Research Institute. Recently, Jimmy and his team are working on the development of biocompatible 3D printing materials for dental application. 3D printing material for surgical guide fabrication has been approved by Taiwan FDA and CE. In addition, two 3D printing denture materials are ongoing to apply FDA 510(k) this year. He believes that 3D printing can provide better complete dentures for elders in the future.
