Performing Art Development In Southeast Asia 

The following lecture will be with Chris who is the managing director of Thong Lor Art Space in Bankok and Leeroy New who is a contemporary artist from the Philippines it is his second year joining TTTIFA as our residency artist. This lecture will be facilitated by Yi-Kai, who is the managing director of Thinkers Theatre and the co-curator of TTTIFA. The discussion will be geared towards the development and production strategies of contemporary performance in Southeast Asia.

本場講座邀請曼谷 Thong Lor Art Space 的營運總監 Chris ,以及第二年受邀駐埕的菲律賓藝術家 Leeroy New 進行對談。講座由大稻埕國際藝術節協同策展人高翊愷主持,針對東南亞表演藝術的製作策略以及未來發展進行討論。

這是一個面向社區的各國藝文資訊交流埠，內設有精品商店 「Charkha」、茶酒館、展區、藝術家工作室等不同空間。在台北市最老的街廓上，一棟建於1925年過去曾為碾米廠的「陳義興」古宅中。

Chirsada or Chis is currently the managing director of Thong Lor Art Space which is named after an area in Bangkok where it is located. Thong Lor Art Space is run by a group of young performance art enthusiasts who are dedicated to offering quality art and lifestyle projects, as well as providing a regional hub for artists and institutes.

Known among theatergoers as an alternative space for small but impactful theatre experiences. Thong Lor Art Space never ceases to push boundaries. Since 2014, the theatre has won several awards from the International Association of Theatre Critics including critique’s choice. Apart from performing art, Thong Lor Art Space always keeps busy as we regularly held concerts, gallery exhibitions, crafts workshops, film screenings, live paintings, and many more. 

Leeroy New / 2017, 2018 TTTIFA Artist in Resident

 2017、2018大稻埕國際藝術節駐埕藝術家

Leeroy New is an artist-designer whose practice overlaps and intersects with different creative industries. Originally trained as a sculptor, but because of his penchant for collaborative work, he has dabbled significantly in film and theater production design, experimental costuming, and performance making. This inclination to move from one mode of creative production to another has become the spine of his practice driven by concepts of world building and hybrid myth-making. New has also participated in the Singapore Biennale as well as the Fukuoka Asian Art Triennial. Currently he co-manages TAOPO, a creative space for urban and social innovations located in Escolta, Manila.Leeroy New is a contemporary Filipino fine artist whose works overlaps with theatre, film, fashion, and visual arts. We are grateful to have him back this year as our Artist in Resident again. He is a Visual Arts graduate of the Philippine High School for the Arts and a graduate of the University of the Philippines College of Fine Arts. Currently, he is known as one of the designers alongside Kermit Tesoro for the muscle dress, a dress worn by Lady Gaga in her music video, Marry The Night.

Yi-Kao graduated from Tamkang University french literature department and is currently the managing director of Thinkers' Theatre. Worked in different types of company units, mostly for marketing or management: 2007 Deputy Director of the Experimental theatre group of Tamkang University, Director of the Hojah International Institute for American Languages in 2010, Store Manager of Lemongrass Co., Ltd., Taiwan, 2014 Hung Ho Troupe Marketing Publicity. Participate in key projects in recent years: 2017 CO3 Overseas Residency Program - Bangkok Performing Arts Party (BIPAM), CO3 Overseas Residency Program - Bangkok, Thailand • Chiayi Art Festival Executive Production.
