A brief overview of Hawaii
In this course, students will learn about this amazing tropical island chain located in the middle of the Pacific Ocean which is rich in history and culture. Students will even be amazed to learn that Native Hawaiian ancestry may even originate from Taiwanese aboriginals. From Pearl Harbor to hula dance and volcanoes, those who enroll in the course will be surprised to gain a completely different perspective about Hawaii and it's people than what they think they already know about this tropical paradise.

Class Introduction
Class #1
We'll talk about a brief history of Hawaii and cover all the major events from King Kamehameha, Captain Cook and Pearl Harbor.
Class #2
In class 2, we'll discuss some of the things that most people think about when they think about Hawaii such as hula dancing, surfing, ukuleles, pineapples, volcanoes, beaches, etc. We'll also confirm/disconfirm some stereotypes.
Class #3
For the final class, we'll cover modern culture and way of life in Hawaii. We'll also have a discussion about some basic cultural differences between Americans in Hawaii and Americans on the mainland.
