Located in Da-an District, the most central and busiest area in Taipei City, Gallery Sun found its own unique and tranquil spot next to a green park, hiding in the quiet alleys. Over the years it has actively cultivated the interaction between Taiwanese and International contemporary artists, promoting public aesthetic education. In January 2016, Gallery Sun will participate in Art Stage Singapore, the biggest art fair in Southeast Asia, presenting the brilliant artworks of two Italian artists and two Taiwanese sculptors. The show will ignite dazzling sparks of creativity when you witness this unique combination of artworks and amaze the international art collectors.
Italian artist Aron Demetz has won international applause with his most representative sculptures, The Burning Series. He put his carved sculptures in the snow and burnt them with fire, so that the wood carbonized and a black translucent surface layer was formed. With the natural cracks resulting from the high temperature, the carbonized black sculpture gives a strong visual impact and a whole new meaning. Aron makes good use of the flammable properties of wood, abandoning the traditional techniques of woodcraft to create new possibilities between medium and form, establishing a unique personal style of expression. His works always catch the audience’s breath because of the strong vitality and the seemingly still burning heat of lives through flames from human souls. It is implied in his works that "even physically destroyed, the spirit is immortal".
Another Italian artist Robert Pan is often described as the magician of manipulating colors and space. He uses a rare material resin as his medium of artistic practice. His works of art are normally filled with saturated varied colors, and by stacking layers of resin, he forms a surface with thickness and creates the sense of space, therefore his work is not just a painting but also a sculpture. With the light reflecting between transparent and opaque color fields, Robert created a psychedelic kaleidoscope-like effect, giving the audience an unlimited space of imagination and interpretation. Everyone can find their own small universe from his works. By polishing the surface of the resin, Robert produces a smooth translucent surface, as if the time is frozen into the picture, waiting for more people to explore.
The sculptor Polin Yang from Taiwan is a prestigious sculpture of mastering techniques in different materials. His works embody his care of nature, linking his deep affection and memory of land to his sculptures, Polin Yang creates his simple and moderate sculpture style. Although the work presented in the fair this time is made of stainless steel, he used rounded and twisted shapes to break the cold and hard feelings of the metal, but added the warmth of humanity. He also used the reflective properties of the metal, between the base and the sculpture itself to create an intriguing and interesting sense of space. At Art Stage Singapore, Polin Yang will also present his latest paintings, Geoblock Series by his original name Yang Shang. This series of paintings uses vertical and horizontal structures to create stunning perpendicular horizons, stabilising the whole painting, and demonstrating his passion for natural life in the rapid fluctuating waves .
Another Taiwanese sculptor Bing Wen inspired by Italian classical sculptures, actively explores the relationship between the intangible time and tangible body. With deep-rooted academic fundamental skills, Bing created his works to present his all-knowing self and his exploration of the universe with the people-oriented spirit. After rethinking the essence of sculpture, he simplified physical performance of figure, returning everything back to the original rustic form, and created his new series of works.
After long deliberation and careful planning, Gallery Sun decided that these four artists perfectly reflected the exchange of ideas and cultures which forms the ethos and vision of Gallery Sun and selected these artists to be represented at Art Stage Singapore. Coming from different cultural backgrounds, but sharing powerful creative energy, these artists convey their inner feelings and introspective thinking within their works. This is the first time they are exhibited together, and we expect to attract international collectors and art critic's attention.
