New York Times 紐約時報討論課
William是報社編輯，他在MyDearTeacher的課程“News Class新聞討論課”很受歡迎，這次William要針對熱愛挑戰的朋友們開設更進階的課程，上課的模式類似新聞討論課，但我們將以紐約時報的文章以及社論作為主題，我們每堂課將專注於2-3篇文章，William希望大家能夠事先讀過，來上課的時候大家可以直接進入討論的核心。

Class introduction
The New York Times has been in continuous circulation for 164 years. The Times is largely considered to have liberal political leanings, but its first edition argued for a politically neutral position and promised to treat each topic according to its nature. The paper, whose motto is “all the news that’s fit to print,” has been a champion of freedom of the press and has published a great number of controversial articles in its history — including those related to the unpopular Vietnam War and the Israeli-Palestine conflict. Because the New York Times covers so many controversial topics and because the media outlet prints so many opinion pieces, the Times makes for a great source of discussion material for learners of English at advanced levels.
In this class we hope to create an atmosphere of friendly debate covering topics from recent news events, particularly those in which relevant opinions may vary greatly. It is my hope that we can foster the development of analytical skills among participants, as well as improve confidence when speaking at length about debatable issues. Students will be encouraged to prepare in advance by pre-reading articles from among those chosen beforehand by the teacher, or those chosen by the student themselves. Students will present articles and their own stances, and then form groups for debate. The teacher will guide students in forming arguments and rebuttals.
