Keith Black, PhD, CAIA, CFA
Director of Curriculum, CAIA Association Keith Black has over 22 years of financial market experience, serving approximately half of that time as an academic and half as a trader and consultant to institutional investors. He currently serves as director of curriculum for the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) Association. In his most recent role at Ennis Knupp Associates, Keith advised foundations, endowments and pension funds on their asset allocation and manager selection strategies in hedge funds, commodities, and managed futures. Dr. Black previously served as an assistant professor and senior lecturer at the Illinois Institute of Technology. He contributes regularly to the CFA Digest, and has published in many journals, including The Journal of Trading, Journal of Financial Compliance and Regulation, and The Journal of Investing. Dr. Black earned a BA from Whittier College, an MBA from Carnegie Mellon University, and a PhD from the Illinois Institute of Technology. He is a CFA charterholder and was a member of the inaugural class of the CAIA candidates.
Executive Summary : The global hedge fund industry cannot be ignored by any stakeholder in the asset management industry - whether as an investor searching for alpha, a long-only institutional fund manager competing with hedge funds for investment opportunities, or as a counterparty to a hedge fund having to manage risk exposures; this presentation attempts to de-mystify the world of hedge funds and provide a better understanding of their strategies and where we may head from here.
