Thomas Lehn: multiple practice in contemporary music
In lecture, audio documentation and demonstration, the german musician Thomas Lehn gives an introduction and a deeper insight into his work and music, but will also touch other aspects of contemporary music in a wider general sense.
One focus of his talk will be the role of a multi-disciplinary approach in contemporary musical creation and the cross-effecting benefits of working in various practices for example as an interpreter of notated as well as a performer of real-time-created music; or working as an instrumentalist using both: acoustic and electronic instruments; or collaborating in productions of other performing arts (dance, film, theatre, multimedia etc.).
The questions to be asked again: what does art and music mean to us? What is the nature and the value of the experience of sound/music in our minds? What does actually happen when (formed or unformed) sound meets our minds, or when our minds meet the sounds? And in this respect, what are in particular the capabilities and functionalities of contemporary music?
