PET/MR imaging systems have been developed with major goals to provide improved clinical assessments of tissues that may be anatomically better characterized with MR imaging and to explore whether the functional capability of MR imaging together with the molecular PET information provide new insights into disease phenotypes and biology. Simultaneous PET/MR imaging is an intriguing research tool, but its clinical applications are uncertain or just beginning to emerge. Potential niche areas may include cancers involving the brain, head and neck, breast, liver tumors and prostate. PET/MR may, however, prove to be superior to PET/CT in other disorders such as those involving neuro-degeneration, neuro-psychiatric, cardiovascular disease and infectious disease. In view of searching for the key application of PET/MR, we believe it is important to hold a timely international symposium with an aim to:
- Inviting the global leaders of these fields to visit and give the most updated lectures. This will weigh the domestic research and health care community into the most essential issues and key information of these fields
- Fostering future collaborations between Taiwan and international scientists to help Taiwan participate in the most upfront international research.
- Acquainting the students and young scientists with global scientists to cultivate the next generation scientists.
