Dear Alumni and Friends,
You are cordially invited to the 2013 May Happy Hour, co-hosted by Columbia Alumni Association and Berkeley Club of Taiwan. This Happy Hour will be held at TAIPEI 101 TOWER on May 31 to pay tribute to the 101st anniversary of Dr. Chien-Shiung Wu’s (吳健雄博士, 1912-1997) birth.
Dr. Wu studied in the Physics Department of the National Central University from 1930 to 1934 in mainland China and later completed her Ph.D. degree at University of California, Berkeley in 1940. She was also a faculty member at Columbia University from 1944 to 1980. As a highly accomplished physicist, Dr. Wu is named “First Lady of Physics” and has been an inspirational role model for women in science and the minority scholars in the U.S.
We are honored to have Mr. Tsai-Chien Chiang (資深文化工作者,前中國時報科學主筆,江才健先生), author of Dr. Wu’s biography (”吳健雄傳-物理科學的第一夫人”, 時報出版), to present his documentary film on Dr. Wu and share his thoughts on the role Dr. Wu has played in the history of science and culture.
